The special little girl in your life is sure to feel like the "fairest of them all" with her very own vanity. I love vanities. I never had one as a kid, but I envied my friends who did. There's just something really timeless and ladylike about a vanity. I picture it as this special, quiet place where a girl can sit and daydream and watch herself grow up.
I love the ultra girly Fantasy Vanity by Step2. It looks like something Fancy Nancy would want!
For starters, it's pink and purple, and decorated with hearts and flowers. Very girlie. Then there's the little drawer, where she can hide all her little treasures (and maybe a sparkling necklace or two). The matching stool provides extra storage space--perfect for all of those feather boas and tutus. A working light above the (shatter proof) mirror will make her feel just like a movie star. And parents will appreciate the fact that it has a 5 minute shut off timer so the battery won't run out in a week! Plus, it even comes with a matching brush, comb, and hand mirror. What more could a little girl want?
But if you think this isn't quite right for your little girl, then just take a look at our wide variety of vanities. You're sure to find just what you're looking for at All Children's Furniture!
So I've already blogged about some fun ways for kids to play outside and ways to encourage imaginative play. Another fun indoor activity is doing a puzzle. Puzzles can be fun for children to do on their own or for parents and children to do together. An added benefit is that they help kids develop deductive reasoning skills.
Melissa and Doug offers a wide range of puzzles from the simplest, jumbo three piece puzzles to more challenging 100 piece puzzles, there's plenty to choose from. The subject matter of these puzzles also varies widely from farmyard animals to the solar system; from dinosaurs to ballerinas.
I like the Sound Puzzles Collection. These puzzles incorporate sound to help educate, excite, and entertain your child. I really like the U.S.A. MAP Sound Wooden Puzzle. It not only helps children visualize geography, but it also features an inconic image on each state piece, such as potatoes in Idaho. The state capitols appear inside the state outlines on the board and provide another fun way for children to learn about the states! This is a great puzzle for parents and children to do together.

Obviously storage is essential for keeping a child's bedroom or playroom in order. You need cabinets, bins, and shelves. But wouldn't it be nice if all these things were kid-friendly, too? Well, Phil the Ground Hog predicted six more weeks of winter, and judging by the snow and rain we've gotten the last couple days--Phil knew what he was talking about.
Gloomy weather makes for dark days and darker nights. As a kid, I couldn't sleep if my room was too dark and even now I prefer to use a night light. If your child is having a hard time sleeping, maybe you should consider a night light, too!
Night lights have gotten a lot cuter since I was a kid. I especially like the Pet Lamp Collection from Offi. The friendly animal shapes are reassuring at night and become cute room accents during the day. They're made of a non-toxic, odorless, molded plastic and use a low voltage, replaceable bulb to bathe your child's room in soft light.
With four different animals to choose from(cat, dachshund, puppy, and teddy bear) and several different colors (including pink, blue, and green!), you're sure to find just the right "pet" for your child. My favorite is the TerriBear, Jr. Pet Lamp. He's so jolly with his round tummy and smiling face that I'm sure he'd put any child at ease. He also comes with two washable markers so your child can decorate him any way he or she wants.

I don't know where you are, but here in Boston we are enjoying a cold and mushy "wintry mix". Last week I blogged about a new way to get your kids outside, but sometimes the weather just doesn't make that possible. So when stir-crazy boredom strikes, I suggest you appeal to their imaginations.
A play tent can be a wonderful catalyst for all sorts of imaginative play, especially the ones by Bazoongi. These play tents come in all sort of shapes and styles, including a rocket, circus tent, and pirate ship--to name a few. Use them indoors now, and outdoors when winter is over.
Bazoongi's durable, kid-friendly play tent was a Creative Child Magazine Preferred Choice award winner in 2007. Not only will it spark hours of pretend play, but it will also provide your child with a kid-sized play space all their own.
My favorite is the Mushroom Play Tent-—perfect for your little elf or pixie. And with fantasy movies like The Spiderwick Chronicles and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince coming out in 2008, your kids will have plenty of inspiration!
