So I've already blogged about some fun ways for kids to play outside and ways to encourage imaginative play. Another fun indoor activity is doing a puzzle. Puzzles can be fun for children to do on their own or for parents and children to do together. An added benefit is that they help kids develop deductive reasoning skills.

Melissa and Doug offers a wide range of puzzles from the simplest, jumbo three piece puzzles to more challenging 100 piece puzzles, there's plenty to choose from. The subject matter of these puzzles also varies widely from farmyard animals to the solar system; from dinosaurs to ballerinas.

I like the Sound Puzzles Collection. These puzzles incorporate sound to help educate, excite, and entertain your child. I really like the U.S.A. MAP Sound Wooden Puzzle. It not only helps children visualize geography, but it also features an inconic image on each state piece, such as potatoes in Idaho. The state capitols appear inside the state outlines on the board and provide another fun way for children to learn about the states! This is a great puzzle for parents and children to do together.
